What's the meaning of the f-numbers used for the

studio light setup? I saw different diagrams in magazines and Internet, and I don't know exactly what they mean. I know that you use f-numbers for the different apertures in the lens diaphragm and this control the amount of light and the depth of field in the picture, but I don't know what they mean when people used them for the setup of the lights in a studio?
