To record user logon and logoff in a domain environment This method to record user logon and logoff times to a centralized shared file can be useful in most of Windows 2000 or 2003 domain environments.

All you need to do is run two batch files during user logon and logoff. Edit the default group policy of your domain so that it runs these batch files.

Create a shared folder in the server and provide write access to all users to that folder. The batch file for logon:

echo %username% login at %time% on %date% from %computername% >> \\server\report\logon\logon.log


The logoff batch:

echo %username% logoff at %time% on %date% from %computername% >> \\server\report\logon\logon.log


Copy and paste this in seperate text editors and save them with ext .cmd

Add these batches with login logoff scripts the group policy.
The server path speified is the path of the shared folder.
You can also save it as .txt or .csv file.
