This is a copy of Windows XP. It is an extremely small iso file which is a reduced copy of windows xp sp2 with only the bae essentials. It has a genuine patch. It comes along with DirectX 10.Yes thats Right Direct X 10 On XP.

Re: Windows XP Gamer's Edition DirectX 10

i must agree, i never seen any gamer edition so swift and fast to install
and i tryed quite several, it might be a good option for the eeepc as well

if u are going to use it for games alone this is a great option
i did a format on drive c on a crushed pc and made a clean install of this
before putting a regular os on it

the gamer edition has a few "minor" problems, due to extensive chopping,
like it has no walpapers and i was unable to install avira or avast on it
the setup will not start for some reason or will not complete
eset nod32 will install but will not function properly
office 2003 installed with a few errors i was able to pass with ignore
but not before i installed dotnet2.0

it is best that u get all your drivers near for your pc
if u plan to use this, motherboard, sound, network, even for video card

*a dynamic update with original xp cd will work
but will not turn the gamer os in a normal one,
i was able to solve a driver issue i had with an webcam that will install but not start otherwise using dynamic update,
but doing it will waste time rather then solving much else

*the dx 10 is not an official release, and it will not install automatically
with the os, but u get it in a folder on the cd,THIS MEANS U GET THE DX10
TO INSTALL FOR ANY OTHER XP U MAY LIKE,
unfortunently i did not have a dx10 video card around to proper test it yet

*i had to erase it as it ended up with a lot of trojans and viruses,
it is my guess they got in from internet due to the failing firewall
i have scanned the iso and the burned disk with avast
and did not find any problems in the release
will try a rescan with other av softs at a later time
u can never be too sure with these things

bottom line:
-not to be used if u plan to install lots of stuff or u lack drivers
-great for a fast install(around 10 minutes) and you'll play games in no time
-take the dx 10 kit and the other jewels from the bonus folder to later use with any other win xp

Question Re: Windows XP Gamer's Edition DirectX 10

I am having a problem with the OS (at least I think it is the OS). Here's my problem:

I just got a Dell Inspiron 9300 (Laptop). I wanted it for nothing but gaming. I got a brand new 160 (Seagate) gig hard drive and installed the OS. The only other thing that I have on the system is Alcohol 120 and an nfo viewer, etc. Just the basics. I installed all the drivers according to the list in Device Manager.

Most of the games that I am installing are going on ok. With the exception of Half Life (original) and counterstrike and Half Life 2. CS and HL2 had to be installed in safe mode. If I tried to install in regular it would get just so far and tell me that a file was missing. I go to safe mode and everything installs fine, no problems. But when I try to install Half Life (original) the game tries to start (CD, autorun) but stops and nothing can be done. If I try to run it manually nothing happens. Safe mode, nothing. But if I take the CD and put it into another system, it runs with no problems.

I really want to use this OS but under the present conditions, if I cannot find a work around I will be left to go to another OS.....I really don't want to do that. I like this OS. I have a hard time believing it is the Laptop.

But I am not ruling it out completely either. Any help would be appreciated.
