Suggestions regarding Windows XP (SP2) startup
problem? Need some suggestions about resolving a PC problem. Every since a recent power outage I have had an ongoing problem with cold-starting Windows XP. It does not occur when doing a warm system restart. For now Windows will only start after several attempts. My system boots up and goes through the BIOS posting process normally. However, when Windows starts loading it hangs or freezes at random points during the process. There are no error messages and nothing shows up in the Event logs after Windows eventual does load after three to five attempts. I have tried Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, Repair Install twice and finally a complete reformat and clean Installation of Windows along with all the latest drivers, service packs and updates with no improvement. No viruses, adware or malware detected. I suspect possible hardware damage from the power outage/surge since this only happens after the system has been shut down for awhile even though I had a surge suppressor installed.
