Lightbulb Guide for μtorrent 1.6.1

UPDATED THE GUIDE FOR VERSION 1.6

I hope this guide will give the Newbies a better understanding of how it works and we'll configure it together..

LETS START THEN!
DOWNLOAD μtorrent (read: micro-torrent) :
μtorrent 1.6 (latest) can be downloaded from
Code:
http://www.utorrent.com/download.php
.
Be sure to use the latest stable version and not the BETA ones..
Installing μtorrent is really simple. Just double-click on the utorrent.exe file u downloaded and it will install quickly.

When installed u can just double-click on the icon on your desktop and u'll see the main windows like this:

Now your main window might not be the same as the pic above. But thats just because i made some adjustments...
Next we are gonna adjust some coloumns u see in the main windows (see pic below). As indicated in magenta right-click anywhere on that bar and u'll see the menu indicated in blue... Here u can select which type of coloumns u what to see in ur main window..
I suggest you takeover same ones u see in the picture, cause those are the important ones..

Also u can drag and drop coloumns to their right place. Adjust them to your own interpretation. I like it the way i did, but maybe u like different order.:-)

Speed Guide (CHECKING WHETHER UR PORT IS OPEN) Are u connectable?
go to options -> Speed guide (or Crtl+G)
u will see this pic:

now u need to use a port in the range of 49152 through 65535. As u can see i put in 49152. Now click on the "test if port is forwarded properly" button.
Now ur browser will open up and if ur port is correct u'll see this text:

Now this is important.. If u are using a router at home and u do not get this message above, then it means u will need to forward that port u used in your router.
U can find more about that at www.portforward.com. Find u router model number there and follow the guide and forward the port u used in the test.. (49152 in my case).

I just wanna give u a idea of what a correctly added line in a router looks like..
For my case (port 49152) the line in my routers NAT table looks like this :

An closed port means that only u can initiate a connection to other peers , but they cannot initiate a connection to you cause u are blocked. And that can be a problem when u are trying to seed. Downloading could be fine, but when u are gonna seed with a low number of peers then u see some problems in speed.

Configuring μtorrrent:
Now we go further and try to configure μtorrent internally.

GENERAL TAB:
Go to options-> preferences (or just use shortcut crtl+P). U will see this the general tab options like in the picture below:

Here the part in red is important.. Be sure to associate your .torrent files with μtorrent by clicking the button indicated in green!
The rest of the options here in this tab are straight forward and can be set to your needs.. *What u see here are my options..*

Downloads Tab:

As u can see here i've selected nothing cause i love to point my files manually to the correct location. But if u just have 1 place on ur drive where u dump all ur files then these options are for u. Just take a look and u will figure it out!

Connection Tab

This is an important tab. Here u see the port we've configured in the SPEED GUIDE . So if ur port is correctly forwarded u use that one here. BEsure to uncheck the "Radomize each time μtorrent starts" cause then u will get a different port each time. And that is not good when u have a router and forwarded just 1 port. (Think about it and u'll know what i mean :-p)

In green u see Bandwidth limiting.. As u see there are 2 options..
- "Global upload rate" (when downloading)
- "upload rate when not downloading".

My max upload speed is 120kb/sec. So when i download i limit it to 60kb/sec, but when i'm not downloading i put 0kb/sec which means UNLIMITED. (so my full 120kb/s).
Its good practice to limit ur upload speed to about 10kb/s below actual upload speed. So actually i could have put 110! but i dont want that :-)
And when ur not downloading u just pump with everything u got (to get ur ratio up ).

Bittorrent Tab:

This is important too... DISABLE all DHT settings (green).
In red u see Encryption protocol.. Do whatever u see in the pic. Enable it.. Its important.

queueing tab:

Now this is straight forward too.. In the red square u put 100% (that means u seed till 1:1). Or u can put it more or what ever u like.. Just make sure ur ratio gets good.

In blue i have indicated that when my seeding goal (100% seed) is reached i want the torrent to stop. (0 means stop). But this is just personal. Sometimes i dont want it to stop so i just remove that and leave it uploading until i stop it manually..
Thats just up to u.

The rest of the tabs u need to check for urself. Not that important. Although the advanced options are at ur own risk. If u dont know what ur doing.. leave them alone!

Advanced tab:

I heard from some guys here that this peer.lazybitfield needs to be put at true.
See pic below and change that also.

What is seeding?

Last i want to point out what seeding is. (This is for the nOObs that keeps asking what seeding is) (check pic below)
If u look at ur stats u'll see UL (how much u uploaded in total), DL( how much u downloaded in total) and RATIO( Which is the division of UL and DL). So the bigger ur UL is the higher ur ratio.. (This is math :-p)

In the blue square i've selected 4 coloumns. Downloaded, Uploaded, Size and Ratio.
1:1 means u need to upload as much as u've downloaded. And u can clearly see that in the last torrent my uploaded is almost exactly how much i've downloaded and hence my ratio there is 1.002 (1:1).
On the torrents above u see i've done more then 1:1. Look at it and try to understand.

So if u want to seed till 1:1+ (or 100% or more) then keep ur torrents running like the last one in the pic. The other ones are stopped now.

Also a note on the passkey. In green square u see i've edited the TRACKER URL and it says that "MY PASSKEY GOES HERE". To avoid ratio problems u need to check that that passkey u see there is the same passkey u see on ***********s Frontpage. Cause only then u know that u are downloading from ur own account and ur ratio will never get registrated wrongly.

How to Seed your release in Utorrent
After making a thread in correct section you need to seed your release. For that purpose follow the following steps.

1. Download .torrent file of the release from DT and open it with Utorrent.

2. It will ask you where to save it? Point it to the folder where your original files are saved. See the following screenshots.

3.After that it will once check the file if it is complete or not. See the following screenshot how it looks.

4. Once checking is finished and it is confirmed that you have 100% of the file, then it will start seeding. See the following screenshot on how it looks like.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Never post a pic here with ur passkey visible. never give ur torrents to others, never give ur passkey alone to others. Thats just calling for problems. If u post a screenshot here , just hide the passkey part!

If there are more questions, do ask it here, but i urgue not to ask unless u did some experimenting urself.. Everything u need to know is in here and visually available.
