An American Werewolf in London (1981)

An American Werewolf in London is a comedy/horror film released in 1981, written and directed by John Landis. It stars David Naughton, Griffin Dunne and Jenny Agutter. This movie won the 1981 Saturn Award for Best Horror Film. The film was one of three high-profile werewolf films released in 1981, alongside The Howling and Wolfen. Over the years, the film has accumulated a cult following and has been referred to as a cult classic.[1]

The film was followed by a 1997 sequel, An American Werewolf in Paris, which featured a completely different cast and none of the original crew.

Plot

Two American college students, David Kessler (Naughton) and Jack Goodman (Dunne), are backpacking across the Yorkshire moors when they are attacked by a large, unknown animal. Jack is killed, but David survives the mauling and is taken to a hospital in London. When he wakes up some time later, he does not remember what happened and is told of his friend's death. Things get stranger when he is visited by Jack's ghost, which takes the distressing form of a reanimated corpse, who explains that they had been attacked by a werewolf, suggesting that David himself is now a werewolf. Jack urges David to kill himself before the next full moon, not only because Jack is cursed to exist in a state of living death for as long as the bloodline of the werewolf that attacked them survives, but also to prevent David from inflicting the same fate on his eventual victims.

Gangs of New York (2002)

Gangs of New York is a 2002 film set in the mid-19th century in the Five Points district of New York City. It was directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Jay Cocks, Steven Zaillian and Kenneth Lonergan. The film is loosely inspired by Herbert Asbury's 1928 nonfiction book The Gangs of New York. It was distributed by Miramax Films.

The film begins in 1846 and quickly jumps to the early 1860s. The two principal issues of the era in New York were Irish immigration to the city and the Federal government's execution of the Civil War. The story follows Bill "The Butcher" Cutting (Daniel Day-Lewis) in his roles as crime boss and political kingmaker under the helm of Boss Tweed (Jim Broadbent). The film culminates in a confrontation between Cutting and his mob with the protagonist Amsterdam Vallon (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his immigrant allies, which coincides with the New York Draft Riots of 1863.

Con Air (1997) mkv_HQ

Con Air is a 1997 American action/thriller film by Touchstone Pictures that stars Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and
John Malkovich. It is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Simon West (in his feature film directorial
debut). The film borrows its title from the Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System, an airline used
by the federal government to transport criminals across the country.

The film featured the 1997 hit single "How Do I Live", originally performed by LeAnn Rimes and performed for
the film by Trisha Yearwood. The movie was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Song and Sound, losing to
Titanic in both categories.

Characters

* Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) - a paroled ex-convict and former Army Ranger catching a ride home aboard Con Air from San Quentin to Alabama where he will be returned to his family
* Vince Larkin (John Cusack) - a chief U.S. Marshal looking to take back the "Jailbird" with Poe's help
* Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom (John Malkovich) - a cunning, intelligent murderer and leader of the inmate uprising, who has spent 25 of his 39 years in the prison system and has been deemed a "true product of the system"
* Nathan 'Diamond Dog' Jones (Ving Rhames) - a black militant leader imprisoned for murdering National Rifle Association members and who acts as Cyrus's second-in-command during the uprising
* Joe 'Pinball' Parker (Dave Chappelle) - a drug addict, arsonist, and inmate responsible for distracting the guards, allowing Grissom and Jones the opportunity to initiate the uprising
* Mike 'Baby-O' O'Dell (Mykelti Williamson) - Poe's nonviolent cellmate who is transferring between prisons and is a steadfast friend and one of the few decent prisoners aboard the plane.
* William 'Billy Bedlam' Bedford (Nick Chinlund) - a mass murderer who is responsible for killing his adulterous girlfriend's entire family and classified as a "separatee" inmate along with Grissom, Jones and Greene.
* Garland 'The Marietta Mangler' Greene (Steve Buscemi) - an infamous, soft-spoken serial killer who is feared by the other inmates and revered by Grissom and imprisoned under the highest security measures, including extreme body restraints and a Hannibal Lecter-style mask; he supplies an interesting role (during the time the prisoners land at Lerner Airfield, Garland meets and comes to converse with a little girl, who remains unharmed). He also has a comical conversation with Poe, and escapes at the end of the film.
* Johnny 'Johnny-23' Baca (Danny Trejo) - a serial rapist who derives his nickname from the number of convicted rapes, although he claims to be responsible for 600 and wears a string of heart tattoos on his arm to mark each rape conviction. Despite Cyrus' order not to rape Sally Bishop, Johnny makes the attempt at Learner Airfield, but is beaten and handcuffed by Poe. Johnny later died from the crash landing in Vegas with his tattooed arm separated from his body.
* Swamp Thing (M. C. Gainey) - a Vietnam War veteran and drug smuggler imprisoned for landing a jet full of controlled substances whose pilot expertise is sought after and used to fly the "Jailbird" to replace the original pilot, following its takeover and his subsequent transfer to the plane while in Carson City.
* Francisco Cindino (Jesse Borrego) - the heir of a Colombian drug cartel family financing Grissom's escape.
* Ramon 'Sally-Can't Dance' Martinez (Renoly Santiago) - an effeminate, transvestite inmate who appears sexually subservient to his fellow detainees.
* Duncan Malloy (Colm Meaney) - an overzealous DEA agent looking to shoot down the plane after the death of Agent Sims.
* Guard Sally Bishop (Rachel Ticotin) - a female prison guard transporting Poe and O'Dell who remains protected by Poe during inmate takeover of the plane.
* Guard Falzon (Steve Eastin) - a prison guard who dislikes inmates and is saved by Poe (whom he had dubbed "trailer trash"), who plants Sims' tape recorder on him to alert the Carson City authorities.
* Willie Sims (Jose Zuniga) - an undercover DEA agent who is posing as an inmate to interrogate Cindino about the family drug business and killed during takeover of the plane.
* Tricia Poe (Monica Potter) - Poe's wife.
* Casey Poe (Landry Allbright) - Poe's daughter.

Barbershop (2002)

Plot
On a cold winter Saturday in south-side Chicago, Calvin Palmer, Jr. (Ice Cube) decides he's had enough of trying to keep open the barbershop his father handed down to him. He can't borrow enough money to keep the place open, it's not bringing in enough revenue, and he's more interested in coming up with get-rich-quick schemes to bring in easy money. Without telling his employees or the customers, Calvin sells his barbershop to a greedy loan shark named Lester Wallace (Keith David), who promptly makes plans to turn the place into a strip club.

After spending a day at work and realizing just how vital the barbershop is to the surrounding community, Calvin rethinks his decision and tries to get his shop back...only to find out Wallace wants double the $20,000 he paid Calvin to give the shop back, and before 7 P.M. Now Calvin has only a scant few hours to try and raise enough money to save the shop.

Cast and characters
Barbers
* Calvin Palmer, Jr. (Ice Cube): a young expectant father, who feels like the barbershop his father left him to manage is causing undue complications in his life.
* Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer): a 60-plus year old barber who strangely never cuts any hair. He worked under Calvin's father, and constantly compares and contrasts both Palmers and the periods they lived in.
* Jimmy James (Sean Patrick Thomas): a recent college graduate and academically-astute young man who sees his job at the barbershop as nothing more than a temporary stop on his way to a "real" job.
* Terri Jones (Eve): a young woman with a cheating boyfriend, who accuses Jimmy of drinking her apple juice. She is the only female barber in the shop.
* Isaac Rosenberg (Troy Garity): the only Caucasian in the shop, Isaac is the recipient of trans-racial humor from some of the other characters, especially his nemesis, Jimmy.
* Ricky Nash (Michael Ealy): A two-time loser who is trying to go straight by working in the barbershop.
* Dinka (Leonard Earl Howze): An overweight immigrant from Nigeria, Dinka is the butt of many jokes based on his African nationality and his large size. He has an unrequited crush on Terri.

ATM thieves

* J.D. (Anthony Anderson): A thief who steals an ATM and spends the duration of the film trying to find a way to pry it open. Ricky's cousin.
* Billy (Lahmard Tate): J.D.'s accomplice in the ATM theft.

J.D. and Billy's antics are reminiscent of those of Laurel and Hardy, and two sequences in which they have to carry the heavy ATM up a long flight of stairs recalls Laurel and Hardy's Academy Award-winning short film, The Music Box (1932).

The ATM theft was an actual case, where two people tried to rob an ATM machine by pulling it out tying one end of a chain to the machine and the other end to their truck's fender. Unlike in the movie, the real theft wasn't successful, as the fender was left behind, with the truck's rear license plate. This, in turn, led to the robbers' arrest.[citation needed]

Other characters

* Jennifer Palmer (Jazmin Lewis): Calvin's seven-months-pregnant wife, who first met Calvin in the barbershop. She reminds him a number of times about the cultural and historical significance of the shop and why he should not sell it.
* Lester Wallace (Keith David): A crafty loan shark who buys Calvin's shop for $20,000 and plans to turn it into a strip club. After selling the shop, Calvin spends the rest of the film trying to figure out a way to raise the money to buy it back, as Lester raises the price to $40,000 after he has control of the shop.
* Sam the Customer (Norm Van Lier): Former Chicago Bulls player "Stormin'" Norman Van Lier plays Sam, who enters the shop to collect donations to buy shoes for a young basketball player named Johnny Brown, who hopes to be recruited.

Barbershop 2 Back in Business (2004)

Plot
Calvin Palmer, Jr. (Ice Cube) has finally settled comfortably into his role as the owner of the inner city barbershop founded by his grandfather. The shop's latest threat comes from overzealous developer Quentin Leroux (played by Harry J. Lennix) who opens a rival barbershop across the street, Nappy Cutz.

While Calvin attempts to figure out how to deal with the coming threat of direct competition from Quentin's flashy establishment, his barbers have issues of their own. Terri (Eve) is finding success in managing her anger, but not in dealing with her attraction to Ricky (Michael Ealy). Isaac (Troy Garity), the lone white barber, is now the star of the shop, and begins to feel that he deserves star treatment. Jimmy (Sean Patrick Thomas) has quit the shop to work for the local alderman (Robert Wisdom); his replacement, Calvin's cousin-by-marriage Kenard (Kenan Thompson), is fresh out of barber school and horribly inept at cutting hair. With the barbershop and other businesses like it under threat from gentrification, Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer) reminisces several times to his time as a young man in the late 1960s, when he first started working at the shop.

After attempting to change his own barbershop's style and decor to match those of his rival's, Calvin speaks out against the neighborhood's gentrification at the local city council meeting in an attempt to stop the changes in their neighborhood. Unfortunately the council doesn't change their mind and continues the project. But in the end, old customers still come to Calvin's barbershop and remain loyal to the old school style.
