Back in the day, if you wanted to create a collage—a picture made up of other pictures, photographs, doodles, bits and pieces of "stuff", all glued together—you had to get out the scissors and paste. As with most complicated processes, there's now an electronic way to automate this process.

Shape Collage is a tool that lets you build a collage on your computer. You can use your own pictures from your local drive, or you can incorporate images from the Web. Choose a shape, add your images, tweak the spacing, and you're on your way to artistic greatness. Save your masterpiece as a JPEG or PNG, or even as a Photoshop PSD file. Each image in your collage is in a separate layer, so you can use Photoshop or GIMP to go in and manually adjust the particulars.


Shape Collage creates a collage by taking a bunch of photos and moving them around on a page so that they form a shape. When arranging the photos, they should be spread apart as far as possible so that you can see each one. The photos should cover the entire shape.

Using the application is as simple as dragging your photos into the left-hand pane, and clicking the Create button to generate a new collage. The options can be tweaked to change the collage to any size, shape, or spacing—you can even draw your own custom shape. Once you've generated the collage, they can be saved to JPG, PNG or PSD file—with no watermarks anywhere, making this an excellent software for creating your next poster or wallpaper.


You're in control:
---Adjust the collage size, size of the photos, number of photos, and spacing between photos
---Change the background, the colour of the border, and more
---Save as JPEG, PNG, or Photoshop PSD
---If you don't like the collage, save it as a PSD and edit it yourself in Adobe Photoshop or GIMP!

Shape Collage is free for personal use. It's available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and just about anybody else who supports Java. And you don't get glue all over your fingers.
