Icon12 How to rip protected DVD to your hard disk with DVD Smit

Commercial DVD titles are often encrypted, which prevents you from either copying them to your hard drive, or playing the resulting files even if you are able to copy them.

What can we do to solve this problem? I recommend a FREE applicant for solving this problem-DVD Smith Movie Backup. This small applicant is a DVD Decrypter and DVD copying software to copy entire DVD movie to hard disk and removes all the protections(CSS,RC,RCE,APS,UOPs and Sony ARccOS) while copying.

With DVD Smith Movie Backup you can make clones of your favourite DVD movies to hard drive with just a few clicks.

Below is the full instruction of how to rip protected DVD to your hard disk.

The operation of DVDSmith Movie Backup is very simple. After only several steps, you can backup protected or unprotected DVDs to the hard disk.

Main interface

1) Backup Mode: Full Disc and Main Movie;
2) Path configuration: Source Disc and Output Folder;
3) Backup process indicators: Current and Total;
4) Operation button: Start Backup / Stop Backup;
5) Size indicators: Source Disc Size and Output Local Disc Free Size.

Step-by-Step instruction:

1 Insert a DVD in your DVD drive

2 Choose backup mode

In the main work space, you can see two backup modes:
:this will backup all contents from the DVD, including main movie, bonus features, and maybe some other extra video clips.

: this will only backup the main movie from the DVD, excluding bonus features or other extra video clips.

3 Select source disk location

Please select this drive in Source Disc drag-down option:

4 Select output folder path
Remember to choose a place where there's enough space to put the backup files.

5 Start backup
After both source disc and output folder options are ok, press this button to start the process:

6 Check the Output Folder

Once the backup process is finished, you can explore them on the hard disk:

(Note: above file illustration is in Full Disc mode. If using Main Movie mode, there will be different.)

Difference between Full Disc and Main Movie

In the main window of DVDSmith Movie Backup, there're two modes you can select:
and

With Full Disc mode, it's able to backup all contents from the DVD, including main movie, bonus features, and perhaps other extra video clips.
If using Main Movie mode, this program will check and backup the DVD automatically by itself. Normally, the main movie consists of files with names like "VTS_01_xxx", "VTS_01_xxx.xx", etc, excluding bonus features or other kinds of video clips with names of "VIDEO_TS", "VIDEO_TS.BUP", "VIDEO_TS.IFO", etc.
