MOVIE REVIEW:-
Dr. Kotnis ki Amar Kahani is a 1946 film made in Hindi as well as English and directed by V. Shantaram. The English version was titled the Journey of Dr. Kotnis. Both the versions starred V. Shantaram in the title role of Dr. Kotnis

The film was based the story 'And One Did Not Come Back', by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas, which is itself based on the heroic life of Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis

Set during the Sino- Japanese conflict of 1938, this classic film is the story of Dr Dwarakanath Kotnis, a young, rich and idealistic doctor, who has a brilliant career waiting for him when he passes out of medical school. He throws it all up to join a group of five doctors who are leaving for China on a humanitarian mission. The war has taken its toll on the land and the people. What lies ahead for these young professionals is uncertain. Dr Kotnis and a young Chinese fugitive, Ching Lan fall in love and the rest of the film portrays the trauma and hardships that this team of doctors faces. His main triumph was curing a virulent plague, but later he was captured and released by a Japanese platoon. Eventually he succumbed to the plague himself

The period film is typical of the era, being an early reformist social. Critics note that it managed to please everyone – the British, the nationalists and the Communists, all at the same time! The film also stars Baburao Pendarkar, the legend of Marathi cinema.
