I benchmarked these two links
Code:
http://anonym.to/?http://rapidshare.com/files/113024145/backup0012tlnp.part02.rar
Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/?wxiljzdgxxj
It's the exact same file and they're both 95MB.
My results using IDM 5.12
Indeed, mediafire does allow multiple connections while rapidshare does not. I was getting an average of around 610KB/s, I'm on 8MB Sky Broadband and tend to get fairly high speeds, usually anywhere between 800KB/s-1000KB/s.
So here goes.
Mediafire: I got 16 connections, downloaded fairly fast but at the end, i couldn't finish downloading my file because mediafire wouldn't send me the last byte, evetually it timed out, gave me this message

then just sent me an html file of about 17k. So a wasted effort there.
Rapidshare Premium: Again, 16 connections, downloaded at an average of about 920Kb/s. Rapidshare had no problem sending me the last byte, therefore i had a fully functioning 7th of national treasure book of secrets! Woo, go me!
Rapidshare (Free): Yippee! It's Happy Hours and i don't have to wait a decade to enter a captcha code. On this connection i averaged around 730KB/s. Again, rapidshare had no problem with me downloading the last byte of the file. So i'm now armed with 2 of the same seventh of National Treasure.
I'd be interested to know how other people fair between these two hosts.
